Background: General contractor Sundt Construction needed to install an epoxy urethane coating system to improve the aesthetics of 8,500-square-feet of flooring at the Silverbell Armed Forces Readiness Center at Pinal Air Park in Marana, Arizona. They sought the assistance of Charles Court Construction, which specializes in waterproofing and moisture remediation system.
Charles Court Construction performed moisture level testing prior to the installation of the flooring, and it found moisture exceeded acceptable levels.
The Challenge: Excessive concrete moisture is the No. 1 cause of flooring failures. It was crucial to mitigate the risk of failure with a proper concrete moisture remediation systems. Any future flooring failure could set back operations and training at the facility, which is shared by the U.S. Army Reserves and Arizona National Guard.
The Solution: Charles Court Construction selected APF’s VaporSolve® Ultra System to remediate the concrete moisture in the slab prior to installing the final flooring system. This system consists of three products:
- VaporSolve Primer, a water-based epoxy material with deep penetration and adhesion to concrete
- VaporSolve 100, a low viscocity, hydrophobic resin
- VaporSolve Joint Filler, a non-shrinking, semi-rigid epoxy paste
Charles Court chose VaporSolve because it works with all levels of concrete moisture, and it has a success rate greater than 99%.
“The system was relatively easy to install,” said Wally Johnson of Charles Court Construction. “Carlos [our APF representative] was extremely helpful and assisted us on site during the beginning stages of the moisture remediation installation and was available whenever we needed him.”
VaporSolve™ systems can be used when concrete has a known moisture problem, when
concrete dries too slowly to meet the construction schedule, and as a preventative measure when concrete doesn't have a vapor retarder in place and future moisture conditions cannot be predicted.
