Retail Store Benefits from Low-Maintenance, High-Performing Flooring System
As the national specifier for all Van’s retail stores nationwide, APF was called upon to assist with a new flooring system for a 2,000-square-foot store opening in Encinitas, CA. The surf, skate and shoe shop needed low-maintenance flooring that could easily withstand frequent foot traffic, as well as light impact and abrasion from display changes. It was critical that the concrete floor would be protected and easy to clean.
Headquartered in Acampo, California, TNT Resurfacing Concrete is a leading provider of polished concrete floor systems, epoxy floor systems and applicator of high-performance coatings and resurfacers for concrete floors. It stays at the forefront of modern flooring technologies and installs products from leading manufacturers.
The existing flooring was in fair condition before the tenant improvement, and TNT needed to patch and repair the floor prior to grinding and prepping. To ultimately achieve a sealed, durable and easy-to-clean surface in the allotted timeframe, APF recommend the following system:
- Epoxy 200 (primer) is a two-component, water-based epoxy with excellent adhesion and rapid cure times. Its unique chemistry provides short re-coat times and good low temperature curing. This material has little odor, applies easily and adheres to damp concrete. It has been designed for use as a fast-curing primer under epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane and polyurea materials.
- Polyurethane 501 Clear (topcoat) is a high solids two-component, water-based aliphatic polyurethane. This unique material provides performance properties equal to conventional solvent-based catalyzed urethanes without the associated health and environmental problems. Polyurethane 501 meets the 50 grams per liter California VOC limits. It offers substantial performance improvements over first generation catalyzed water-based polyurethanes. Poly 501 gives hard, durable coatings that feature good gloss, easy cleanability and superior abrasion resistance.
As an added benefit, Epoxy 200 primer with Poly 501 as a topcoat may be installed together in just one trip to the jobsite. Fewer trips to the jobsite meant a reduction in labor costs.
“The Epoxy 200 and Poly 501 products are super easy to use and always turn out great. I use them on other projects that don’t have a spec and want a good quality, durable sealer. I had the product for this project in my inventory,” said Terry Keener, owner, TNT.
